just harvested my casing.
first off, i dont see why people dont advise simple casings to noobs.
they work so much nicer.
-their easier to harvest IMO
-more even pinset (on the cakes i had to knock off some pins before the dunk and roll, there was like 5 pins there when i harvested the casing)
-easier to put in lots of water without drowning your mycellium. i just ploped it out of the tin after harvesting and gave it a good spray down and wetting.
i didn't even get a contam and i just casually poured verm from the bag, then put on broken cake and poured on some more verm in open air.
anyways heres some pics: (pretty sure their B+)
 
the second pic is of a shroom that basicly started to grow down into the perlite, then when i put on a light started to grow up and sideways... into another cake.
so its all smushed and got that white growth at the bottom.
is it still good?

that casing looks sick
i got one the same size taht im gonna put in the FC soon (myc poppin above my verm casing at 4-5 points)
how much of hte verm had the myc popped thru wehn you put that in the FC?

well i sprayed it and got everything nice and wet then covered with cling wrap and put it under a clean shirt on a shelf. prolly was there for about a week until i saw a little on the top and made sure it had taken hold again.
then put in the FC.
i really am shocked the casing worked this well... lol

dont think i mentioned yet, casing gave 83g wet :P

I think my shrooms are lacking in potency.
took about 3g in gal caps about 6 hours ago and only got a bit of a stoned feeling and maybe some slightly distorted vision.
and i've been sweating like crazy all night.
a couple friends who split an 1/8th also reported nothing at all.
maybe my drying methods need work...

im getting some really deformed and hollow B+...
some stems even splitting open while growing.
is that a big problem?

you should be ok, you can harvest them if your worried about contams (the biggest prob with a split shroom while it is growing, if my readings are correct)
2 friends splitting an eight...that is like 1.7g each...not surprising if they didnt feel much...
for potency, try picking them a bit earlier...that may help (instead of waiting for all veils to break wait for one or if they are all close, wait till they are about to open their caps and harvest)
idunno what to do about potency...i hope i dont have the same prob

Yea an 1/8th is an OK dose for one person. Some say BRF cakes give lower potency than bulk substrates while many trusted cultivators that I've read of say it's genetic (there's debate about ability to 'feed' them tryptamines). Thus with multispore inoculation who knows what you're going to get. There are not any studies on this that I've seen, it's all anecdotal.
Like CamKron said you can try picking them smaller. They are more potent then as after the veil tears most cells only expand by increased water content (search for potency).

i just made up a dozen gel caps from jsut over 6g of cracker dry shrooms.
I'm thinkin grinding up the whole batch will help even out the potency.
also i dont think they were totally dry before.

dunked and re-rolled the cakes a couple days ago, and their already showing some pins.
are you supposed to knock off any pins before you dunk or are they ok to stay on?
also inocced another 4 jars, 3 containing a substrate mix im trying, with EQ :P

Pick aborts but def not pins.
Take a look at RR's notes when you get a chance (or just search through them). I found answers to half your questions there, including this one. 
What substrate are you trying?

for this grow, just BRF...
the new one im trying it a mix of a whole bunch of things.
WBS, BRF, 7 grain flour, and ground flax
hoping it will give a better balance of nutrients and better flushes.

I did coffee and gypsum with my first BRF grow (still colonizing). You might want to check those out too if you are going to do BRF again.
If you want guaranteed better yields, and since you already have a PC, why not just try grains with a bulk substrate like horse manure or coir?

I dont want to bother with h-poo yet, if ever.
I've been toying with the idea of putting some coir just around my cakes when i case them, since i hear it's slightly nutritious.

I was gonna add coffee grounds to my mix but i forgot it when i made it up :/

one of the cakes that been putting out shrooms for a little while now has started to put out SOME tinny FRUITS.
ones not much bigger then the verm are breaking veils...
does this indicate a lack of nutrients of lack of water in the cake?

update!!
been harvesting my shrooms as they come in.
most are fruiting VERY unevenly.
but theres a couple comming in together on the second flush.
and my casing put off a cluster... ofc with a mutant >.>

I dunked and rolled twice, then the flushed kinda stated messing up so i haven't dunked in a while.
