The Official Change P&S Thread/Poll

Edit: Second poll just a couple posts down from this one on the no personalisms rule.

Well, since Poid's poll is invalid due to omitting a crucial choice on the name change and the personalism issue, I figured I'd take the initiative of creating a comprehensive, legitimate poll for determining how P&S feels about all the changes to P&S that have been discussed recently, since no one else has. There definitely seems to be a lot of interest in making some changes here, so let's see what we can accomplish together instead of letting the energy slide. :smile:

First, for those who have not been following the discussions regarding all of this that have came up in several threads (at least four distinct ones that I can think of atm), allow me to summarize what has been discussed, objectively as possible.

A lot of people have suggested that it is time to remove "Spirituality" from the title. From what I gather, this is due to an impression that "spiritualists" participate in the forum with a different sense of how the forum has come to function, as result of P&S being dedicated to critical debate, and clashes occur. Removing the word from the title, they feel, will help bring clarity to the nature of the forum.

Now for the fun. I'm including a poll that contains every suggested name-change that I've seen thus far, as well as options for leaving the forum name as it is and for selecting "other", which can then subsequently be written-in with a post in this thread.

Debate of Spiritual topics will still be allowed in this forum regardless, as that falls under 'Philosophy'.

Secondly, there has also been a lot of discussion regarding the no personalisms rule. Ultimately, the views range from strictly disallowing the discussion of the personal nature of others, to allowing any kind of discussion and letting members regulate for themselves what they wish and wish not to view. To see how everyone here feels on this, here's a quick poll. Also, on this and the name-change, and anything else regarding the forum, please feel free to discuss about your point of view on it all in this thread. If things are going to change, let's all get involved and express ourselves fully to really make sure this forum is the best it can be for all involved. :smile:

Philosophy & Psychology here. I think its the change that would best reinvigorate the forum, as well as emphasizing a lot of what goes on here anyways. Talking about the mind and behavior FTW. :lol:

And personalisms with moderators being able to intervene at their discretion. Essentially, personalisms useful for discussion being allowed while "you're fucking stupid", ultimately flames, being disallowed, IMO.

I think "you're fucking stupid" should be allowed; let the people flame away if they want.  What shouldn't be allowed are off-topic posts such as pointless spam or flames that have no context whatsoever in the conversation.  Insulting a person's intelligence is certainly relevant if not the most sophisticated response to a philosophical argument.

I don't know about that, especially when its coupled with Philosophy. The description, if the word was added, I'm sure would state that its for discussing the human mind and behavior. Psychology is just the best word to represent all that. :grin:
