Ok, so I've known this girl for a couple years, right? For a while I saw her pretty rarely since she's a friend of a friend of mine.
Then about a month ago she got my number. And suddenly we appear to be hitting it off.
She hits me up almost every day just to say hi and invites me along to just about every social gathering she gets involved in. When I hang out with her she usually sits next to me, talks to me more than any of her other friends (and she's EXTREMELY social), and touches me on a very casual and regular basis, grabbing my knee, hugging me tightly, et cetera. She always talks about how much she loves hanging out with me and how great I am.
What's more is I love hanging out with her too, I find her whole style very energizing. She's a tightly-wound bundle of pure fun. She's cute as all hell and she's got a smile like sunshine and a boundless sense of humor. And to top it all off she likes mushrooms and is an even bigger stoner than I am.
I figured when I first met her that I wouldn't have a chance with her being that she generally prefers women and so I never really bothered to think about her that way. But now, unless I'm mistaken, something is happening, and very naturally at that.
In the past I've had a lot of trouble with unrequited obsessions with girls and I feel like I've mostly shaken that by now (playing the field does wonders), but this situation is pretty different from anything I've experienced. Should I say/do something about it or should I just try to play it cool?

Play it cool and go with the flow. She obviously likes you a lot. Who knows where it could lead?

Yeah, I'm no virgin, I've had plenty of sex. What I've always really wanted is a genuine, life-affirming connection with a woman. I've had that in the form of a few friendships, but that said, my relationships with women have always gone one of three ways: 1) friend zone, 2) obsessive alienation, 3) fuckbuddy with whom I share no genuine or interesting connection beyond a mutual desire to have sex.
Is it so childish to hope for something more?

I'll put it this way. Pretend you're her. Quit being a romantic turtle squirt. Ask her if she likes dramatic people, 99.9% she'll say no. That's an instant turn off to the kind of chick description you put on.
