I never understood why people who are into hip-hop (especially more underground shit) are so egotistical about their taste. Worse then hipsters if ya ask me because hipsters all like the same shit.

He may in fact, be a literal bum, only able to make himself known to us here by occasionally stopping into dark internet cafes to make a few quick, frantic posts before the owners force him to leave because of the stench of rotting vegetables and desperation wafting forth from his pores.

good post btw.
and if you're sayin' i'm a hipster, you're sadly mistaken. i've been into hiphop all my life. from the moment i saw "style wars" on pbs as a child, it's culture has had ahold of me. the music really came in 1991, when it finally got my attention through anthrax's "i'm the man" along with their stint with public enemy. when that shit happened, my life changed.
and i'm STILL a student, just like you. and i know damn well you know about jazz music. c'mon, if you think i was coming off dickish, you oughta know why. look at most of these replies to these threads that happen EVERY FUCKING DAY. they're always the same ol answer. this is just the current one. was trying to bring up some other shit. and i've never exclusively listened to hiphop music, but i've always been a part of the culture. i'm a turntablist and retired graffiti bomber. i take pride in being a part of hiphop, just as much as the listener. all i want to do is spread awareness to the current community, even if i'm not as active in it as i used to be (ie - just being a listener).
so seriously. peace and respect goes from my way to you. i didn't mean to come off dickish, if that's what you think. it's all about the music, and we know that.
and for the record, portishead and breakestra are two different braches of the whole tree of hiphop. there is zero debate about that. i don't even know why that's arguable.
