Pan Cyan - Growing on composted cow manure
    #10132025 - 04/08/09 05:06 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

So, i have 4 pan cyan maui jars colonized and getting ready to be spawned. Unfortuantely, my hpoo is not yet leached enough...I went by and bought this bag of composted cow manure, but im not sure if it will work properly. Anyone have any clue if it will work? If so, should i add more than a normal amount of vermiculite to keep it from being 'muddy'? Anything really imperitive that i need to add to the mix? I dont mind giving some of these pan cyan prints out for some good help when/ if they grow.
Thanks guys!

I would add 30% verm and 10% gypsum. Def. give those a 50/50+ casing(peat moss, verm, gypsum, and hydrated lime) and don't make the substrate depth more than a few inches, 4" MAX. Spawn at 1:3 or 1:4 ratio for best results.

I have heard of successful grows with the black kow brand manure. I would suggest mixing with either coir or shredded straw to give it some texture for myco. growth. I'm sure some verm wouldn't hurt either...I've never tried my hand at cyan's but I know that you need to use something besides just the cow poo to keep it from being like you said muddy...:2cents: I'm sure some more experienced cyan grower will chime in and give you tips..I also thought that they were wood lovers????e

So you think the composted manure will work? Ill prob end up using it, cause i got nothing else, and gotta get these jars spawned. Ive been growing cubes for a while, but these are my first pans, and my first time trying to use store bought poo.

Naw, pan cyans are poo lovers. I got about 10 bricks of coir as well, so ill prob go ahead and add that.

this is from RR a few days ago... hope it is what you were looking for.

I'd have to search it out for you, but I remember reading RR say once, that if one were to use Black Kow, to only use it at 10% to your overall mix.

Not exactly, but you should mix it with vermiculite at 30% to 50% by volume. Toss in about 10% gypsum too, just like with all substrates.  Bagged cow manure works great, but it can get pretty muddy if you don't mix with verm.  Brand is irrelevant.  What matters is where each batch comes from. If from a feedlot or dairy, it's going to be a lot muddier than if from a ranch where they're eating hay.

As long as it's organic and there aren't any pesticides or crazy additives in it you should be alright. Just make sure your ph is on par, 7.5 seems to be the average of what people aim for with their bulks.

If you make the substrate over 2" thick, it won't fruit.  Pan cyans like a thin cow or horse manure substrate.  I found that 1 1/2" depth is about right.  Too many people try to treat them like cubes and get nothing for their effort.  Keep the peat/verm casing layer to 1/4" thickness.

Are there any fruiting conditions that differ from cubes that I should be aware of? or just the standard around 75 degrees and 95-100% humidity?

Sorry guys, I seem to be having some bad luck on my last batch of tubs. Everything has gone downhill (including my cubes) and i doubt anything will make it through. Time to scrub the fuck out of my room, and start from the beginning again. This is setting me way back, and im sorry I wont be able to get the prints to you guys. I still got half a syringe, so ill be knocking up more Pan jars soon. If I can hook the prints up then, I will.
