I haven't smoked in a long time. I went from hardcore stoner to occasional smoker simply because of the social anxiety. I function very well socially when I'm sober, when I'm high I feel like its a skill I'm severely lacking in. The effects smoking weed has on my anxiety last days after sometimes. It's just not worth it.

Anonymous #5 said: Social anxiety is a very common side-effect of cannabis. Cannabis can make you paranoid and can immensely slow down your mental tasks which is partly why it causes social anxiety. Another reason it causes social anxiety is because it can also cause plain old anxiety which is usually where the social anxiety stems from. If you smoke regularly for a few years, eventually these negative effects will no longer be an issue. The only problem is, that when you get to this stage, you have a huge tolerance to cannabis and the effects will be very mild, sometimes to the point where you can't tell if you're high or not. But yeah a lot of people quit smoking cannabis for this reason. You just have to regulate your cannabis intake to see what works for you. It all mainly has to do with the frequency of use and tolerance to the drug.
I disagree, I smoked for years and was fine. I always got high and it wasn't until 3 or 4 years of smoking daily that my social anxiety started. Pot made the condition far worse, so I quit using it.

with indica I would agree, but sativas make my mind race like crazy and I get unsure of how to act if I am around people that I don't know too well
+1
my advice is grow your own...there are many types with very varying effects
sativas can elevate feelings of paranoia or anxiety, especially if taken too early (as is typical of dealers)
grow organic too if possible, high will be cleaner

I don't like smoking with people at all anymore. Too bad because it's a nice ritual to just participate in passing the pipe, loading, and different shit like that.
Though I feel that it gets me anxious because like someone else mentioned you start tripping up when you feel too slow to contribute to the conversation very well and things just snowball and get bad from there.

I think marijuana may be best as a self analytical drug--- I find it is most enjoyable when I have solitary sessions, aside from something like a concert and sessions with close buddy's.
sober socializing can be enough for the brain to process!

I figure now that just hanging out with someone is enough of a "drug" in itself and doesn't need THAT much supplementing. Things like massive vape sessions, binge drinking, snorting coke are often just ways to pass up time together. Not bad ways but should not really the main point of getting together most of the time. So it's really not that bad to just decline the bowl when it goes around or even just take a couple of hits rather than getting blitzed.
