Yeah, but depending on your latitude you only can synthesize vitamin D for certain months of the year.  The closer you are to the equator the more of the year it is fine.  Where I live its only 6 months where the sun gets high enough.

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

Albert Einstein

Depression is this century's mental illness.
It kind of replaced hyteria, it seems.

Is this concept introduced in Quantum psychology or Promtheus Rising? They're on the reading list.

So far I've only read Illuminatus and Sex and Drugs by RAW.

Vitamin D deficiency accumulates through the winter causing this to most people.  Along with the bad economic times this winter them together would have a particularly strong effect.  People need to stop and enjoy the sun more, imo.

No kidding...even when it's absolutely perfect outside (and you will know when that is because everyone will tell you about it) no one stays outside long. "It's soo nice out there, isn't it??" Yes I'm sure you enjoy your full 2 minutes of it as you walk from you house to your car and from your car to the store. I had some room mates a while back that would come out of the house to smoke a cigarette and hang with me and whoever I was with. They'd talk about how great it is out then go back in to play video games for the next 2 hours until they wanted to smoke again.

I would say it's winter blues also. I'm in the northern latitudes so it probably hits harder up here...I don't even know if the south has winter blues...do they?

Dude, it's been such a horrible fucking winter in BC. I used to battle with severe depression but got passed it. Now I just get mellow in the winter, but this feels like a never ending winter. It still keeps on snowing here. By my house, I'll wake up with close to a fucking foot of snow.... bust out the shovel, clean that shit up so I can go to work, barely scraping by...

It's hard to not get the winter blues sometimes. This has been a horrible winter. Fucked up economy, seems like planes are crashing every day, cops are being killed or killing people, everyone's going wild, holy shit...

In my personal circle, everyone is particularly happy right now.

We've all been learning and traveling and making new friends.  I just told my boss I'm leaving to travel and try new things.

The economic situation is a great time to leave behind the boring way you used to make a living and try something you really enjoy.  I'm amazed how our culture teaches people to depend on someone's else's company to keep you happy and sailing straight.

Losing a job gives a person an abundance of the most precious resource, time.  Creative, self-reliant people will do fine during a recession.  Complainers and dependers will have trouble.

I don't watch the news either, it's poisonous.

Complainers and dependers will have trouble.

Not to mention the poor.

It is not advisable to be poor. :smirk:
