Cent FL ID plz
    #10013603 - 03/21/09 11:35 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Looking for some possible ID's. All of these were found in a garden area, mostly around the bed of the garden, not actually inside. It's watered regularly so it makes sense why they are only popping up there, and not in any pastures near my house :frown:

Like I said, We found all of these in the back yard. I basically just wanna know if they are Active, Or if they should be left alone.  The small round caps have spore printed what looks to be black. No purpling color to it that I can tell.

The flat ones on the green paper are quite common around our garden,  The big one is flatened out a bit, As you can tell they seem to have a cone type structure when more mature. These are not spore printing AT ALL, On white paper. which is why I moved them to green paper in an attempt to find out if they are printing white. I do not believe these are active (sadly) due to the fact that they do not print black to jet black like many of the similar ID's I have found.

And as for the odd-ball white ones, I've seen them in florida many times before, I highly doubt they are active for what im looking for (FUN TIMES!)  But none the less a friend of mine enjoys cooking new recipes and wants to know if they are edible, Again... I highly doubt it, They look poisonous to me.

Again, thanks for all the feedback. And as a side note, The stems were no longer than 1.5-2 inch

Had to edit the post and make them links for now... The pics came out nearly as big as my 24in screen >_<

The first two pics look like they may be a Panaeolus species.Did you happen to save the stipes?

The puffballs are a Lycoperdon species.

I can't make out the third batch.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

Didn't get a chance to be able to know which belongs to which, Because I didn't pick them my self, But here they are!

When my cousin told me what she had picked the caps were all ready removed and lying there next to the stems.

Are any of these known to be active?  (Please forgive me if I misunderstand "Active" to be "Magic Shrooms")  That's my current understanding :X

Next time I'm going to make an effort to get a pic Before picking them, As well as pics with stem and all. As undisturbed as possible

First ones I'm thinking are Psathyrella now, after seeing the stems.

Doesn't look like anything active there.

So from what I read on the white puffball, It seems edible?

I wouldn't mind giving it a go, What do you think?

Would be kinda cool to actually eat something I found growing off the ground in my backyard!!!

apparently they taste kinda good too....

The ones in the first two images in the op  are Panaeolus campanulatus. The 5&6 pic in the op maybe psatherylla.
As Danny said, nothing here is active.
You are looking for mushrooms that grow on dung or burried dung, have a purple/brown spore print and bruise blue.

I figured that the two stems on the right went with the top two caps because of the black spores on them. Wouldn't Panaeolus campanulatus have a thinner, longer, more reddish stem? These seem rather thick and white.

I don't see that petticoat pleatedness? around the cap margin either.

Could be wrong though,it runs in the family.:yesnod:

lol, I was gonna say something similar. The names of the mushrooms that belong to this complex [used to] get name changes alot. I think there was a grouping here in the last year, but IMHO, the previous names were a more accurate description.

That's a pisser as to how many times they change the names of shit. There should be regulations.Once they have it in the right genus there should be no more screwing with species names unless they're calling two mushrooms the same species.

I think that's the case here. As I peel through plethora of these things bound to find  meanies in my locale ( ) I think the old names describes them just fine according to the toothed margin.
