Looks to me like it could be a Trichocereus Peruvianus, but I'm not quite sure.

The aeroles don't look like Peruvianus to me, maybe chiloensis, but even that i'm unsure of. Was it sold to you as a peruvianus? Judging by pics I'm looking at it may be T. Peruvianus, although something about the rib pattern/notches doesn't look right.

i called my buddy who gave it to me and he said he couldn't remember what it was.
its ribs are swollen because it was getting to much water before i got it, it does have V shaped notches above the aureoles but like you said bloodnashes something looks wrong for Peruvian.
the aureoles are more gray looking than they appear in the pics

Very possible, it seems like getting a clear ID is getting muddier and muddier due to cross breeding and hybrids.

Peruvian torch gets its name from the spines looking like flames. This is most notable on the new, top growth. The 2nd pic weiliiiiii posted show that. THAT ONE is a PT. The one in the first post is not. Looks hybrid. The bone colored spines say cuzco IMO.

Ok, the answer to the riddle is, you did correctly ID the plant. But the original ID is wrong. That belongs in the cuzco family, not the peruvianus family.
I'm kinda torn on the idea of cactus taxonomy... do we label them by what they're sold as originally? Or give them new names as we go? :p
