Depends.

Scherzer has only made three MLB starts, counting today.

His first one was great, his second he got rocked, and he was mediocre today. The front half of that rotation is set and ready, so there is no great urgency to see what Sherzer has. And since Doug Davis is now cancer-free, I think when he comes back they send Scherzer down. Of course, Scherzer is going to have at least one and likely two or three more starts before Davis is ready to pitch, and if those turn out like his first start what happens is anyones guess.

You know what you're getting from Doug Davis, which is a decent-but-not-great start every game. He's probably a better pitcher than Scherzer RIGHT NOW, but Scherzer is certainly the option of the future. This is his first year in professional baseball, remember. Another year or two in the minors is not going to stunt his development. Starting pitching is hard to come by and the impetus is always there to rush your new young pitchers to the field as fast as you can, but I think you're seeing in places like New York what can happen when you move too fast.
