You could try to get a job at a local SPCA or something - or, get your foot in the door as a volunteer and ask them to keep you in mind for positions as they open?

I don't get paid for any of the work that I do, but there are some SERIOUS benefits to volunteering - I get all of my dog food donated (and the food we use typically costs about $45 a bag), as well as all of our cat food, all of our dog treats, toys, beds, blankets....everything. Maybe it's something you could consider

It's also really rewarding to foster dogs for rescues - your dog(s) get built in socialization and play time, and you get to help dogs along the way to their new home.

Edit - I just noticed you're from TN. That's where all of our rescue dogs come from....from a high kill shelter called Tipton.
