He's a one year old neutered male and it's not the first time.
He has peed on things now and then his entire life but often with several months in between and often only small puddles. Now he's pissed outside the box twice in a week though. He first pissed on a pile of bed clothing and just now on my hellishly expensive bed This time he pissed a lot.

Any ides on why this might be.
He's exclusively an indoors cat so I'm afraid that that might be the problem; he cant move around as he wants and expresses his stress this way, but he doesn't seem stressed. He runs around a bit each night but most of the time he's chilling and snuggling with me or my girl or playing with our other cat.

Might it be from urinary tract infection? Or is it strange that it's so far between the times?

is the litter box very close to the food dish? a cat will not shit/piss too close to his eating area.

is the box very dirty?
is it very shallow / not a lot of litter?

is he not getting any stimulation? do you play or supply toys treats for him/her? is there a window he can look out of.

have you recently moved or added anew pet / roomate/bf/gf? stress can also make them go in places that are not their usual.

what ever you do DONT let your always indoors cat outside - he will probably be injured.

i suggest you clean our mattress with solutions specially made to get rid of cat urine ammonia - and look at the list i proved and see if you have one or more of these issues. if not take him to the vet. could be an infection.
