Re: Debate continues over benefits, risks of medical marijuana [KALAMAZOO ]

Quote:

"Marinol is better than smokeable marijuana because Marinol does not contain the additional chemicals, impurities and hazards associated with smoke," George said in a statement this month to the Senate. "Also, the resulting THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) blood levels and hence, the effects, are more predictable with Marinol than smokeable marijuana."

Ever heard of a vaporizer or cooking with it? What are cannabis 'impurities'? Is it cut prior to sale & use? Additional chemicals? Nice way to make natural alkaloids sound frightening. By this logic people should only take caffeine pills & not drink coffee due to the 'additional chemicals' in it.

Quote:

"I'm telling you, as a former hospice physician, it is of no benefit to legalize smokable marijuana," George said.

Stephen Jay Gould would disagree with you, but what does that stupid pothead know about biology & science?

The FDA agrees.

How surprising! I was totally expecting them to come out in favor of it.

Quote:

"There are alternative FDA-approved medications in existence for treatment of many of the proposed uses of smoked marijuana," the agency said in a statement in 2006.

Yes. but they aren't as effective. Why don't you talk to actual patients instead of pharmaceutical lobbyists to make informed decisions & responsible, effective policy?

"Marijuana has a high potential for abuse...

Liar.

...and has a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision."

Liar.

"If marijuana was legal (for medical use), I'd definitely try to get rid of some of my pills," she said.

Yes, but is the best physical interests of the patient more important than the excessive profits of pharmaceutical companies?
