Jan. 26--Most North Texas school districts do not drug test students. Shown are local school districts that do and what they test for:

Cleburne

Who is tested: All students who participate in extracurricular activities. About 65 percent of high school students participate.

Substances tested for: Marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, phencyclidine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methadone, methaqualone and propoxyphene.

Crandall

Who is tested: Voluntary for grades 7 and 8, with 25 percent participate. About 18 percent of grades 9-12 participate in voluntary testing. Testing is mandatory for students in athletics, drill and cheerleading teams.

Substances Tested: Amphetimine/methamphetamine, barbituates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine metabolites, methadone, opiates, phencyclidine, propoxyphene, ecstasy and alcohol

Dallas

Who is tested: Voluntary, random drug testing for all students sixth through 12th grade. Student and parent must agree.

Substances tested: Marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, amphetamines.

Forney

Who is tested: All students in grades 7-12 participating in any UIL or extracurricular activity.

Who is tested: 30 percent of students in grades 6th -- 12th who are in UIL extracurricular activities, as well as students who volunteer to be tested.

Grapevine-Colleyville

Who is tested: High school students in competitive, extracurricular activities

Substances tested: Alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, methaqualone, benzodiazepines, phencyclidine, propoxyphene, methadone, barbiturates, amphetamines, opiates and steroids.

Italy

Who is tested: Any student who participates in a UIL event is drug tested in the 9th grade. All other high school students are tested on a random basis.

Substances tested for: All illegal drugs, including alcohol.

Kaufman

Who is tested: Ten percent of all seventh-12th grade students in athletics, band, cheerleading and drill team randomly tested each time. A smaller sample is randomly chosen for steroid testing.

Who is tested: Students in grades 7-12 who participate in athletics, band, cheerleading, or drill team.

Mesquite

Who is tested: High school varsity athletes

Who is tested: All students who participate in extra curricular activities in grades 7-12. Parents of other students can volunteer their children.

Red Oak

Who is tested: All students in grades 9-12 participating in competitive, school sponsored, extracurricular activities.

Substances tested for: Illegal substances including but not limited to marijuana, cocaine, phencyclindine, propoxyphene, opiates, hallucinogens, and metabolites. Also prescription drugs; performance-enhancing drugs, including steroids; and alcohol

Rockwall

Who is tested: High school students in extracurricular activities

Substances tested: Cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, opiates, phencyclidine, propoxyphene, benzodiazepines, barbituates, methadone, methaqualone, ecstacy, creatinine, alcohol, marijuana, steroids and inhalants.

Royse City

Who is tested: Grades 7-12. All students involved in extracurricular activities.

Substances tested for: Alcohol and drugs (marijuana, cocaine, meth amphetamine, barbiturates), but students can also be tested for any performance enhancing substances

Terrell

Who is tested: All active students involved in extracurricular/UIL activities in the district in grades 9-12. Any district student who chooses to be voluntarily tested. Students involved in extracurricular/UIL activities are randomly tested once per six-week period at a rate of ten percent of eligible students per test. Ten percent of the randomly selected students are tested for steroids.

Substances tested for: Amphetamines, barbiturates, sleeping pills, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methaqualone, opiates, heroin phencyclidine, angel dust, marijuana, alcohol steroids and propoxyphene.

White Settlement

Who is tested: Grades 9-12, all athletic teams, drill team and cheerleading
