its delicious, I'm stunned sometimes when I go to a gas or convenience store, and they have three cooler's full of energy drinks and a two full things of different species and flavors of water, yet they dont have grapefruit juice. What the fuck kind of world do we live in.

I admit to being a sucker for Arizona iced tea.

Especially the sweet tea. And the grape drink. And the ginseng/honey.

I drink tons of tea at home.

I'm happy it's almost summertime so I can bust out the sun-tea jug.

They say it isn't healthy, but fuck 'em.

What isn't healthy? Sun tea?

Fuck that :crankey:
My grandma used to make that all the time.. I drank it by the gallon.

If they are worried about bacteria you could always boil the water first..

Yeah, they say putting it on at table in your backyard at like, 80 degrees is a recipe for disaster.

But everyone in my family does it and nobody has ever died. I don't believe it's dangerous.

I found this-

Quote:

According to the Centers for Disease Control, using the sun's rays to make tea can facilitate the growth of bacteria. Tea steeped in a jar on your porch won't get any hotter than 130° Fahrenheit, about the temperature of a really hot bath and not nearly hot enough to kill nasties lurking either in the water or on the tea itself. For that, water needs to be heated to 195° for three to five minutes.

Alcaligenes viscolactis, a bacteria commonly found in water, consequently turns up in sun tea. While the caffeine in black tea will help prevent that microbe from flourishing for a few hours, its effects won't last beyond that. Herbal teas are an even worse bet for brewing in sunlight because they tend to lack caffeine, which means even that barrier to Alcaligenes viscolactis turning your summertime drink into its own breeding ground is missing.

Apparently it turns up most often in people that use containers that aren't thoroughly cleaned. And you're not supposed to leave it out for more than 4 hours or something. I don't buy it though.. I've been drinking sun tea for years and I've never gotten sick or anything.

i wonder if you use water from one of those refill machines at the grocery store if there would be less chance of a problem.

I remember one time in Flagstaff Az., this place had several jars out front on the railing sun brewing tea, i thought " geez, in this town i hope someone doesn't drop acid in one of those jars"

If you use good clean water there shouldn't be a problem.

If the water is from well water, I can see that..But if its from the store I can't see that.. As teas pH is about 4 to 6.5, so there not very much going to grow in there and the white sugar not going to let alot of stuff grow..And the UV rays from the sun will kill most of it..
