Tried my first Durian

I bought a Mon Thong Durian from the grocery store yesterday and cracked it open with some people today and tried it.
It's fucked up. Really weird. Most people only had the smallest taste. I ate a bit. Weird shit.

Asian grocery stores. I got mine from T&T Market in west edmonton mall. I've seen them downtown in lucky 97 but they only have frozen.

I've only had a taste of a durian shake that my friend ordered from a Vietnamese Pho restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. The jittery and smiling owner seems to get super excited when anyone asks for it, since I suppose most people don't take him up on the offer. It's a unique and fairly pungent flavor, the odor is less than desireable, but it was a worthwhile experience for those who enjoy experiencing new flavor and texture combinations.

Yea, I'd prefer lychees anyday, and they're much easier to find state side, in my experience.

Well kiss my grits! I guess I just haven't been looking hard enough. In my area, all the asian markets are Korean markets.
What I really want to find is a cherimoya. Pan Tang, the local family operated Thai restaurant, sells a bottled cherimoya drink... for $35! When I asked the owner (father) about it, he said the best place to get an actual cherimoya fruit... is by going to Thailand.

It's not so bad, is it?
I've only had durian boba tea from a pho shop, but that's not too off key I don't think.
It tastes pasty, and a little bit like a non sweet honeydew with black liquorice, right?

Cheramoya is so great.
I had my first one a year or two ago and have been eating them regularly since then.
I'm not always in the mood for them, but when I am they are the best thing ever.

That is some bizarre, almost alien-looking shit.

Oops, major brain fart in my last post. The $35 drink and fruit I was talkin' to the Thai dude about was the mangosteen. I've actually tried a Cherimoya once about a year ago (from the local grocery store). Would still love to try some of your home grown though!
