i find it amusing when people at raw chicken and fish and stuff, then get sick 3 days later and say "Wow, my body loves this new diet. Its purging out all the toxins."
Heh. No, you ate raw meat and got food poisoning. Your body now hates you...

correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think raw meat is generally a part of raw food diets. isen't it usually all plant-based?

Thats what I was thinking...
I know someone who feeds their pets all raw veggies & meat, she is a raw food eater too but only plants, no meat

Depending upon liviong conditions and accomidations generally I try to do the raw food thing occasionally in random spurts just for good measure. It's definately the best way to go unless your psysiology disagrees with it for some freak reason.

I'm not one to go on any specific type of diet, but as for raw fruits and veggies, I have always enjoyed them better raw they look better and taste better. Even when I make something like stir-fry, I hardly cook the veggies. If you're cooking for people they notice the bright color and crunchy texture that you have when the veggies aren't cooked.

There's a good raw cook book by Roxanne Klein and Charlie Trotter called "RAW" it's pretty adventerous in its food presentation, but the pantry index has some really good recipes you can adapt to your diet and cooking repertoire. Roxanne is credited with starting the raw food craze in California, and Trotter of course is one of the best chefs living.

I would be interested in it, but I know everything has to be like SUPER fresh & I dunno if I just trust reg. super markets. I know I really love sushi & wonder what other meats would taste like... but are there any really safe methods of do it yourself raw- eating?

The RAW diet is awesome and lots of fun. Here is one of my favorite recipes thats RAW.. I use this sauce on lots of different stuff.
MMMMM----- Now You're Cooking! v5.65 [Meal-Master Export Format]
Title: Better Than Mom's Tomato Sauce Categories: sauces/dips Yield: 3 cups
3 c tomatoes; diced 4 tb apple cider vinegar 1 tb maple syrup 1/2 ts sea salt 1 tb Italian herbs 1/2 c basil - fresh; chopped 1 1/2 c Sun dried tomatoes 1 ts jalapeno peppers 1 clove garlic
Blend until smooth. If you do not have a Vita-Mix, you will need to soak the sun dried tomatoes in water beforehand. Soak them for a few hours, then discard the soak water. Makes 2 cups.
this is a RAW lasagna that I made with this sauce - ummm!

This has some really weird ingredients but it really turns out great!

MMMMM----- Now You're Cooking! v5.65 [Meal-Master Export Format]
Title: Raw Health Cafe Chocolate Cake Categories: desserts Yield: 6 servings
{cake} 4 c walnuts; soaked 8 hours 1 c raisins; soaked in orange -juice 1/2 c carob powder 1 c blueberries; frozen is fine 4 dates
{icing} 1 soft avocado (no Joke) 1/2 c carob powder 3/4 c beet and carrot juice; about - half and half 1/2 banana 1 c blueberries 3 dates
Mix all cake ingredients in blender for 3 or 4 minutes, stopping machine occasionally to scrape down sides. The texture will be thick and pasty.
Place mixture in glass pie plate and level it out. Leave for about 10 minutes, then spread the cake with the icing.
Icing: Blend all ingredients together for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth, with the consistency of chocolate icing.
This cake, served at Vancouver's Raw Health Cafe in Kitsilano, is deceptively like a chocolate cake. It requires no baking and carob stands in for chocolate (as cocoa beans require roasting).
For the beet and carrot juice, if you don't have a juicer, a juice bar will gladly sell you what you require. Serve the cake with a twist of orange or lemon slice.
The walnuts are soaked to remove a bitter enzyme inhibitor. Throw away the soak water.
MMMMM
