This is pretty wild. I'm sure cops do all sorts of things, but I'm not one of the most paranoid here as to the systematic abuses. While I wouldn't think this would happen often, Its hard to believe how cavalier and openly they orchestrated this....
Repost, but who cares. This forum doesn't get much posts.
Also, their have been cases where police create robery reports as pretexts to search houses. Also illegal, but perhpas one day a court will rule that innocent officers who weren't a part of the plot can still seize the evidence and admit it, expanding the innocent conduct and good faith error doctrines. Crazier things have happened, and courts have ruled that excluding evidence "punishes" officers who may not have done anything wrong... as if their job isn't simply to follow orders an enforce the law but to put peeps in jail. /end rant; here's the story:
http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2008/03/24/cop_0325.html -000 excerpt:
The team found some marijuana behind the apartment but not inside, they said. Stallings and Junnier then decided to search an adjoining apartment but no one was home and they found nothing inside.
Stallings told the team to leave the apartment and shut the door so it would appear there had been a break-in, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors argued the the incident was part of a pattern of conduct by Stallings and his team, which included misrepresenting unregistered drug informants as registered ones in order to secure warrants.

Not surprised by this at all, especially not coming out of Atlanta.

i remember reading somewhere about giving pigs large amounts of money, paid vacations and other benefits for ratting on each other. putting more to be gained in fucking each other, than the public. it might have been an article, might have been a post on here, i don't know.
do you imagine such a system would help?
