Trying to get into shape, P90X?

Trying to get into shape, not looking to get ripped, just want to be slim with some nice lean muscle. In decent shape but not great shape right now. About 5'8" 170lbs.
I just started the P90X program 2 days ago and frankly it is kicking my ass. Every muscle in my body is sore as fuck right now.
Wondering if any fellow shroomites have gone through the program and if they felt the commitment to the program was worth it. I will stick to it, just looking for some positive vibes to keep me motivated for the next (extremely tough) 90 days.

P90X looks legit for your goals. You could also check out http://www.crossfit.com after you finish the P90X program. It can kick your ass as well, but you need a little more equipment.

I've had some experience with P90x. You really need to be in shape prior to starting the program and need to stay focused on it and do it every day. A solid diet goes a long way too.
I love it. It really does kick your ass and you sweat buckets by the time you're finished. The first time I did the Yoga X section I was sore as hell.

I have the whole p90x and it is ok. I've only been using ab ripper x dvd. I got it for the jump training and still haven't done it.
I actually prefer Gilad from fit tv.
He made the bottom half of my body match the top half. My favorite trainer by far.

Workouts are 45-90 mins of intense cardio, strength training, yoga, etc. Very well rounded program.
I'm kinda designing my own diet cause I'm way too picky to stick to the diet suggested in the nutritional guide. Basically it invovles a high protein, low carb, low cal diet for the first 30 days and slowly increasing your amount of calories and carbs over the course of the program. I am sticking to this pretty well, just using the basic principles of the diet and eating food that fits in with the program.
The program can cost anywhere from $120-$300 depending on what options you choose. You need resistance bands and a pull-up bar which they offer with the program. I already had those so I had no need to purchase them.
I spent about $200 cause I went with the P90X+ program which is the basic program plus 4 extra dvds with different workout routines.
Definitely do not buy the program unless you are already in decent shape. I actually did not pass the fitness test that they suggest before starting the program but I am taking it a bit easier and not doing all the reps that they do in the workouts.
It is expensive but if I can get in the best shape of my life in 90 days, I think it will be worth it.

If you just do your own research on the net you wouldn't need these programs. Getting in shape is pretty easy, it just takes time and dedication. Diet is very important, water and green tea only. If you want to build/maintain muscle you can throw in milk as well but I would go for low fat. Whole wheat bread only, chicken, turkey, tuna, eggs, vegetables, and fruits, and you pretty much have a good diet for getting into shape. As for the workout, if you want to build muscle train two muscles a day at the gym, 3 diff workouts for each and throw in an ab workout if you think you can handle it. 5 days a week, or more if you feel your muscles are recovered. Do as much cardio as possible, I find doing light aerobic exercises for long periods of time really helps. For example, I would put some music on and start jogging in place, and punching/kicking along with other random exercises for a 2 hour period.
This is how I have done things for the last 4 months. I was 6'1 200 lbs 4 months ago but when I started researching exercise and applying things I have learnt I lost a lot of weight and put on some muslce in that 4 month period. I am now noticeably fit at 158 lbs. The greatest thing about working out is seeing your body change, all my muscles are noticeable, and my six pack just started showing about a week ago.

Yes, I know you can get into shape on your own. Some of us need extra guidance though. Thats where P90X comes in for me.

My room mate and I have been doing the p90x program for about five weeks now. We have been skipping days, changing around the program, not following the diet, and generally not doing it as you're supposed to
Even so, I have noticed quite a large difference in my own physical condition. I've lost a lot of fat and gained a lot of muscle.

Same here, I am on week three of the program. I have cheated on my diet quite a few times. I have skipped a few days and done workouts not exactly on schedule.
Still, my abs are beginning to show more than I've ever seen them. I can now do 2 pull-ups in a row compared to 0, and I can do 20+ push-ups compared to 10.
That is only on week three while not following the program that closely. I cannot praise this program enough.

You can find the program in a smaller file size, but I believe this one is made to burn, and play on your TV.

this may work, but so also does changing your nutrition, doing bodyweight exercises at home and adding some cardio - FOR FREE.
but you pay for it so its gotta be good since it costs money ! lol this way of thinking really seems to count for quite some people.

Just download the torrent. I found them on btjunkie.otg. The big ISO files are best, the smaller videos dont play so well when you burn them to a dvd and I would rather work out in from of a TV than my computer. The larger torrents also include all the documentation on the workout plan.

I would but I don't have a digital camera. I know, it's almost 2009. Why am I still living in the stone age?
I am defintely seeing results in the form of increased strength, muscle tone, and reduced body fat. This is with cheating on the program a bit (I don't get the energy to work out when I'm hungover and who can resist pizza puffs and cheese fries when they are only 2 blocks away?) so my results would probably be even better if I stuck to the program more closely.
This has got to be one of the best workout programs ever devised. I don't know why someone would pay $40 a month for a gym membership or buy a bowflex when you can get this program and have the same (if not better) results.
