Affirmations
    #8633643 - 07/14/08 02:11 PM (4 months, 19 days ago)

So last week I read Scott Adams "God's Debris" (which if you haven't read, you should all read it), and was highly interested in the affirmations section. Adams explained how writing down your personal affirmations 15 times a day is a great way to focus your mind. He described it as your subconscious playing its odds....if you have the strength and will to write down your affirmations 15 times a day, than it is your subconscious telling you that you have a good probability of becoming what you write.

So, I've been doing this for about a week now, and I HAVE noticed a difference. I feel more confident in several aspects of my life, i feel more clear headed and focused, more lively, and in general I don't worry or stress out nearly as much. I think more about how I can better myself rather than about what is wrong in my life. It seems goofy at first to have a notebook filled with the same repeated words over and over, but it really does help to focus your thoughts on what you want to get out of life.

Has anyone else experimented with writing down their affirmations everyday? Any success stories?

"I don't want to fuck with anybody's head here," Hawking told the assembled scientists via his voice-simulation device, "but if time goes sideways as well as forward, there might be, like, other versions of this reality, where, say, the Roman Empire is still in charge and stuff."

"By the way," Hawking added, "ever think about what'd happen if you, say, went back in time and accidentally killed your own younger self? Man, that shit would be so fucked up."

I've heard that Scott Adams did this in order to become as famous of a cartoon artist as he did.

It's also considered "re-programming of the subconscious" in certain systems, where the ideal amount of repetitions is 40 and the ideal time is just before falling asleep or just as you're waking up.

I tried it for a few days and I felt a twinge of something going on, but I didn't continue long enough to see anything work out. My biggest problem with this is I don't know what to start on. I want to work on the root cause of things the way they are in my life and it seems like as I repeat certain statements I scrutinize them and change them, which probably alters the efficiency...eventually though (soon I think) I will just pick one and do it for a month or so and see where it gets me.

Did you try and materialize objects in your life or changes in your personality? I've heard of both happening, but the above technique I gave recommends only using it for personality alterations. I'm not sure it matters, really.

The way I see it, adjusting your personality and inner value system will help you find and achieve the material things you want out of life (if thats what you desire).

Sure your affirmation could be "I want to be rich and famous" and you could write it over and over. But I think it would be more useful to write "I want to be active, confident, outgoing, and an opportunity seeker." This way you adjust your mind and your spirit to achieve what you want, and you become more willing to work for what you want.
