 CHEAPEST way to get medical tests?

i would like some medical tests done on my gi tract. probably an endoscopy and a stool test, or whatever the doc thinks is appropriate. i already posted my symptoms in another thread so if you're curious, just check my post history.
anyway, i want to know how to get this done with the least amount of doctors visits and spending the least amount of money.
i have a primary care doctor but no gastroenterologist because i moved.
i looked in the phone book and got the number of a gastroenterologist and made an appt for an office visit. however, i realize that i will need to pay for the office visit plus another visit for whatever tests are ordered.
i want to know if it would be better to go my primary care doctor instead. can she order the tests and send me directly to a gi doc to do the test while skipping the office visit with the gastroenterlogist?
i have blue cross blue sheild insurance.
also, can i refuse anaesthesia and just take the pain because the the fucking anesthesiologist bill was absurd, even after insurance last time i had this done. or can i be my own anesthesiologist and just take like 20 mg of xanax before the test? i am guessing that's not allowed but what if i explain i can't afford to pay for these tests? any other ways to cut costs? thanks.

Check your insurance coverage contract, or call BCBS. I had BCBS at one time and I didnt need a PCP referral for a specialist.
opt for the sigmoidoscopy over the colonoscopy if your worried about the bill. You dont get anesthesia for the sigmoid
