Don't get all jumpy!
This post is only a link cause I'm just that lazy. 
After searching and searching without finding a tek for extraction complete with pics. I did some google searches and found a tek with pics and its quite detailed. Thought I'd share it with everyone here who may be looking for it.
If you decide you wanna keep the info on the page for future refrence without having to look here just click on "file" then "save as" and it will save the info as a web page in "my documents". thats what I do with all great info.

You should do a search. They decided about 3 or 4 years ago, that this was not the best way to do an extraction. But apparently, nobody here has produced a proper extraction, not even with pf's method in the link. There have been thousands of posts about it though, but no real results.

Actually, pf's extraction tek with everclear rocks. My only change is to stop short of crystals for best storage life. Several years ago, I reduced a qp of dry fruits down to a shotglass worth of everclear, and it's been sitting ever since. Recently, I sampled it by squirting 1cc into a glass of orange juice. Trust me, after three years, it works.

thanks rr but i have a question for ya
you say that you stopped short of crystals.
do you mean that you did not dry the liquid completly to form dry crystals?
did you have crystals on the bottom of the storage container that was the size of a shotglass?
please share how you did it!

Correct. Stop before the everclear fully evaporates. Store in the refrigerator. Shake before use.

Who knew the DEA could be so useful?

okay, i did a bit of reading and thinking. seems to me i have several options:
*extract in 95% ethanol (everclear tek in the links) and consume, filtering while hot
*extract in acid (eg. acetic) then wash (eg. with turpentine) and basify (eg. with sodium hydoxide) and extract (with ether, naphtha or methylene chloride .... none of which i can get) before washing with water, evaporating and recystallising with ethanol.
any hints from the experienced? any leads on getting a hold of the extraction solvents?

You can buy 190 proof everclear over the counter in Oregon, and several other states. It's not on the liquor store shelves, but it's in the back. They'll get it on request. Just tell them it's for extracting herbs or mushrooms like shiitake and reishi into tinctures for nutritional supplements or body oil. Lots of little old ladies in the PNW use it for that very thing.
Once you soak the material in the everclear, filter very well. I use a metal spaghetti strainer first to get the chunks out, then run it through coffee filters twice to get the smaller stuff, then run it through surgical masks(not dust masks, surgical) twice to get it cleared up. The extraction will be yellow when clean, almost like urine, and clear enough to see through a quart jar of it. Once you get the extraction clear, put it in a double boiler and boil down until you only have a shotglass or less left. Store in a tight container in the freezer. 1/2 pint jars work great for storage.

fortunately i have one of these filter flask thingies from ebay -  to ease the filtering part.
what i still need to establish is whether everclear (95% ethanol) is the best solvent or just an easy one for many. i live in the UK and have never seen the stuff, but i can get hold of isopropyl alcohol (?propanol) and possibly methanol too. is 95%/5% water ideal, or is 100% the best?

Several people have used isopropyl alcohol, but it's poisonous so you have to evaporate all of it off, and then the crystals seem to break down in the air and become much less active. Do you have any form of 95% pure grain alcohol in the UK? I know someone who also used bacardi 151 and it worked out well, but I doubt the shelf live would be as good as with the 95% alcohol. It's my understanding that a small water content is good, but a larger water content, such as with vodka would break down the actives much sooner. That's just what I've heard so don't take it to the bank, as I'm certainly no chemist.

currently i am in new york and currently i can't get my hands on anything higher than 160 proof devil springs vodka. could i supplement the everclear 190 for some 160 proof???
if i have to i have a friend who works in a differant state every week so i might be able to have him pick some up.
what states besides oregon can you get everclear over the counter???
also what is the shelf life on the finished product ???

Shelf life is reputed to be many years. I think you can get everclear in south dakota. I'll bet the 160 vodka would work. I've heard of guys using bacardi 151.
