Tom Volk's prescription for large morel sclerotia
    #9033803 - 10/05/08 06:11 PM (1 month, 29 days ago)

In the PDF document Volk used peptone and casamino acids, asparagine aspartic acid etc...

I've recently found rabbit kibbles and liquid kitten formula, and wondered if that would make for a
really good nutrient source for morels.

Another thing I have found is that the granularity of the nutrient poor layer is a factor in sclerotia formation. The larger the granularity the larger the sclerotia and the sclerotia look more like what I
found in my pyrex bowl and not the little white tufts. The morphology changes with increased air spaces.

Funny, I am currently on the same track, reading that paper and wondering about asparagin and coarse materials for the covering layer. So far I read that asparagin is found in germinating seeds of leguminous plants, in potatoes and in asparagus. Next time I will mix a few sprouted lentil seeds into the substrate and cover with those expanded clay pellets, perhaps mixed with sandy soil.

BTW, concerning my black morel jar, I risked a smell of it. And it has a faint anise smell to it.

It is my purest cleanest uncontaminated jar of black morel spp elata/conica/angusticeps
