Help me out please.

I have a few big speeches coming up and I get a lot of anxiety from this. I have an appt. with the Dr. Monday and want to know what is the best anti-anxiety med for this type of fear? I need it to last at least 3 hours. Also, what do I tell the Dr. so he doesn't think I'm a benzo fiend?

Don't tell him about the speech. List all the symptoms of anxiety that you get when giving a speech publicly, but tell him that you have this anxiety when "talking to people". This will cause him to think you've got social anxiety for which benzos are perfect. Also throw in that you've had some "panic episodes" from time to time (shortness of breath, sense of impending doom, hyperventilation). Tell him that you came to him because you realize that to continue to function you need some medication because whatever you have is affecting your career (sort of true) and that you've been on prescription meds before. The meds were anti-depressants and they made you really nervous and caused you to grind your teeth a lot.
You might want to mention that the anti-depressants worsened your insomnia. This will be perfect for benzos.
Remember, you need to say things that will trigger HIM to make the correct diagnosis and prescription for what you need.
1. Mention anxiety symptoms, particularly social anxiety, and act jumpy. 2. DEFINITELY mention this is affecting your career/functionality 3. Tell him you can't sleep well 4. Tell him anti-depressants are not good for whatever you've got 5. Don't mention public speaking as an issue. Lots of people have this problem and he may write off your anxiety as typical.
Remember, the doctor WANTS to sell you drugs. You just have to lead him to the right kind with the right triggers. Always keep in mind that you do need benzos to function, that this is technically true. There's nothing wrong with going in prepared so you can maximize the effectiveness of your treatment.
EDIT: DO NOT for any reason tell this person you use illicit drugs. A flaw in the system causes all psychiatrists to immediately ignore whatever real problem you have and focus entirely on your drug/alcohol use. If you want to get benzos, admit to drinking only occasionally and NOTHING ELSE.

Thank you very much for your input. What RX would be best for really keeping you from getting anxiety? Benzos like Valium, Xanax, or Ativan? I've seriously never taken any anti anxiety med before and have no idea if they work well for getting really nervous.

I thought about that, but I can't get the right level of BAC for it to be effective.

Valium is really addictive IMO. Xanax is too strong for what you're describing and also very addictive. I would go with Clonazepam, also known as Klonopin. Don't mention any drugs by name. The doctor has to feel like he has the upper hand, that HES the one making the decisions about your life. It's an ego thing. You need to sound like an innocent uneducated boob. It'll make you appear more trustworthy and the doctor will feel good about himself.
EDIT: ANY benzo will make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to feel nervous. They're not really euphoric but they are fucking great for anxiety. It is literally a physical impossibility to feel nervous on these drugs. They trick your body into acting calm by lowering your heart rate and giving you some intense short term memory loss, so even if you've just humiliated yourself you can't remember the emotional reaction to the event even if you remember the event itself. By cutting off the physiological triggers that indicate to your mind that your body is nervous, benzos stop your mind from freaking out.

I would tell the dr you have a speech and you are very nervous. Drs script out benzos for short term anxiety like its candy, shit you can tell him you are afraid of flights and you are almost guaranteed a script for a few valium.

Ativan has helped me. It's an "as needed" pill. I take one every single day before work though because I need it.

It is completely normal to get anxiety and such before a speech I wouldn't recommend getting benzos for something like this its something you just have to man up and get over. I had to give a presentation just a couple weeks ago on fuzzy logic was nervous as fuck but very prepared. Being prepared and knowing what your talking about is the key once you get up there and start talking its not so bad. I would think benzos might make you forget some things you were going to talk about.

I know this is not a short term solution, but taking an acting/drama class in high school made giving presentations and public speaking a lot easier.
Remember #1 fear of people = public speaking, #2 = Death
What does this mean? People would rather be in the coffin than giving the eulogy.
-------------------- "A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.
Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.
Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

I can sound and act like I'm comfortable, but unfortunately I sweat badly, hands get wet cold (and turn really purple/red), face gets red, and mouth dry.
One of the events is a 4 hour banquet where I am the MC. So I won't need to remember things very well, just want to be able to shake each persons hand and for my face to not get red.
