Stupid Canadians Need Not Apply
    #7606596 - 11/07/07 11:45 AM (1 year, 15 days ago)

ok, i love Canadians, BUT, the people over at basspalyer magazine apparently don't care so much for those Canadians with lesser math skills.

why's that, you ask?

so i'm over at bassplayer.com entering a contest to possibly win a $4000 Carvin custom built bass  when i notice this in the fine print of the the "Eligibility" section of the official rules:
Quote:

In order to win a prize, residents of Canada will be required to answer correctly a time limited mathematical skill testing question to be administered via telephone.

WTF is up with that?

if i'm just a stoned stoner, sayin some stoned ass shit, please correct me

Just remember, the answer is 42.

I think that's law that they have to ask you some stupid "skill-testing" question here in Canada.

It's usually something like what is 28 + 84 / 2 - 7 * 4

You're here because you know something.
What you know you can't explain,
But you feel it;
You've felt it your entire life.
That there's something wrong with the world.
You don't know what it is, but it's there....
Like a splinter in your mind...
Driving you mad.

So do we, but our way is a little bit more of a passive discrimination.

Every contest is like this because otherwise it is classified as a game of chance (i.e. gambling) and subject to all sorts of troublesome restrictions.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day. -- `Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.' -- Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.

Ah, makes sense. Funny though that in that Wiki article, it says it's rarely regulated properly and the wrong answer doesn't usually disqualify you from winning.
