But seriously, if this was a case of theft, you have to be royally twisted to believe that the guy deserved to be shot (and maybe killed, if he hadn't found that tree). People never cease to amaze me...

Noble? To shoot an unarmed guy who's frantically hiding behind a tree multiple times at point blank range? How is that noble? He didn't shoot to miss to scare the guy, but actually hit him multiple times. Noble is jumping on a live grenade to protect your mates from being hit by shrapnel. This is total cowardice and utter viciousness.
As a side effect, this video clearly shows the reality of shooting in self defense: (though this was homicidal attack) One bullet doesn't necessarily drop an opponent at once, not even multiple shots at point blank range. Before he collapsed the attorney could've completely emptied out a pistol in retaliation if he had had one. This is the "lack of stopping power" police every so often complain about.
