Well, I am selling my computer to someone and I guess I want a program that will erase everything and make my computer as if it were new.
Help?

Ok,
I know very little about computers. I check my gmail and download songs thats about it.
Someone explain very simply to me what I need to do.

Take it to a computer shop.
Say "I want you to wipe my drive clean. FDisk, and reformat. Here's the CD, reinstall Windows. I'm selling it, and I don't want any of my pr0n getting out." ... give the guy a sheepish smile. It'll cost you $50-$100, but worth it.
Or get some neighbor kid to do it for a trade.

Download a copy of the Darik's Boot and Nuke ISO here.
Burn that ISO image onto a CD using your favorite CD burner. Make sure you have it set to "burn CD image", not an audio disc, data disc etc.
This will create a bootable CD that will wipe your drive even beyond FBI's recovery strategies.
Make sure that your CD drive is the first item to be booted (via BIOS or boot menu)
If all this is Greek to you then as Dr_T said, prepare to shell out some money!

If your computer was new, and from HP or Dell, you might have an 'Emergency CD' which will do what you say. Dig into your desk and see if you can find it. It'll pretty much be automatic/self-explanatory if you have one. Just agree with whatever it tells you.

Youll have to find a program to zero out you HD then reinstall windows. Other then that they 'could' recover information from your HD.

I just burn this iso to a CD, pop it in my computer and then bam. My computer dies.

Yeah it'll ask you for some input like how many time you want to overwrite the hard drive. 2 or 3 times should be plenty if you're just selling to a friend. Just make sure it's an iso type project your creating with your burner or it won't burn it right.
