has anyone noticed this happening? as if being a nerd is now a really cool thing to be? i just see people going around trying to outwardly convince people that they are nerds or geeks by saying "im such a geek." geeks are awesome people, they are some of my favorite people, and i dont like it when people dismerit them by claiming to be a geek for knowing something about rocks, clouds, different types of grass, or the evolution of the toenail.
there are people who read something online that might not even be true and regurgitate the information to their friends and tell their friends they are a nerd for knowing that thing, and have a nice chuckle about it. i dont really like it when people do that.
an example of a technique these terrible awful people use goes something like this: "i just read a comic online about the Xbox that only a nerd like me would find funny." (possibly followed up by the joke) To me, saying that is like "i just read something you wouldnt understand and i would, so really the reason im telling you this is to impress you and make you think i know a lot of stuff about electronics" (even if they do, its annoying to me)
I find people who say things like that extremely annoying. There are people who are actually really into stuff like that, and those people are awesome, but i dont like people who dont know anything about anything technical or 'nerdy', or anything about a subject that would be considered geeky, found out a tiny bit and tell their friends so they can seem like a all cool like and such.
example "did you see cindy's make up today? it reminded me of a clastic sedimentary rock layer from the crustaceus era." (i have no idea what im talking about here) this quote would be shortly followed by a comment about how the author of this quote if a geek verbalized by the person who said the joke about the make-up.
am i alone here or do things like this bother other people? if not please feel the need to laugh at me and call me names like "bitch" and "whiner" o "whiny bitch," would also be acceptable.

Yeah to be fair I program in my spare time and want to do a maths degree to supplement my major.
Oh and I run my own openbsd webserver in my bedroom; infact its sat right next to me.
Just gotta configure qmail now
