Seeders? Bittorent question

Hi, I'm new to bittorrent, and I was wondering what the hell a "seeder" is.
Any tips to using bittorrent? I'm dl'ing some stuff from the pirate bay right now...

A seeder is the person you download from (or people rather). Since your receiving the file in peices, you are seeding to the "leechers" (those downloading) as well.

Seed=upload
Leech=download

Seeding just means keeping your client and torrent open for uploading after you have downloaded it. That way others can download the same file you just got. If you don't seed back then it's sometimes called a hit and run. I don't seed as consistently with public trackers like the pirate bay (typically just leave the torrent seeding overnight once or twice at most) but I do seed as long as I have the files when they're on private trackers.
