What to say
    #8591894 - 07/03/08 03:07 PM (4 months, 30 days ago)

To an acquaintance whose boyfriend just died? He was young (24-26) and died this morning during a bone marrow transplant.

well this is what I wrote, should I even write anything?

'I am so sorry for your loss. From all the times we ran into each other Tony was always a cool guy, and im sure so much more than that. I wish you the best Christine; you're a wonderful person. My sincere condolences.

With love,

Mick'

That seems perfect to me. Anything more than that from an acquaintance would be a bit excessive, anything less would be a bit too insincere. I think you got it perfectly.

don't write letters, call at the very least.  You should really do this type of thing in person.  By actually talking to the person you can do more help then simply putting words in a letter or email.  I know that when my best friend died a letter wouldn't have done anything but make me feel worse.  Being surrounded by my close friends and loved ones was the only thing that got me through it.

if this person is a close or even just a good friend of yours, they may need you right now.  Call her up man.

Yeah keep it short and sweet, in person if possible.  And be sure to tell if she needs anything, you're there.  And not in that creepy your-boyfriend-just-died-now-I-want-buttsecks kind of way.  You know what I mean.  :tongue2:

If she depended a lot on him she's probably feeling pretty lost.  Try to include her in a lot of things, keep her around people and she'll bounce back.

that's gotta suck, dying during an operation.

yeah it was really sad reading her blog, because he was hopeful that the operation would work out, even though she thought it was risky. it was some kind of liver problem that started the whole thing. that organ is very, very important

Happened to a friend of mine's dad. He was getting "routine" angioplasty. When they injected the dye so that they could see the balloon in his veins his heart stopped and they couldn't restart it. It was an allergic reaction to the dye that 1% of the population has.

It really sucked for her too because it was a few months before she graduated highschool and went to college. Saddest funeral I've ever been to. :frown:

Really sucks how a standard surgery can kill someone. My mom has to get surgery on her hand soon and I'm scared shitless =\
