Do you think the spider knew?

i left my fan in my window last night and knew i would have some kind of bug get in. when i went to remove the fan, there was a spider crawling up the screen. i grabbed a pen a tried to grab the spider but it ran. finally, after about ten seconds i got it on the pen. i quickly took it outside and released it onto a leaf of a bush. it sat still as i looked at it.
do you think at the last moment, it knew that i was helping it?

I think maybe that spider knew you were going to kill and eat it, then you spared its life and it was grateful. It was expecting death but felt the breeze of the night and shit and realized that you were helping it

I have never seen any spider or insect show any signs of conscious intelligence, they are completely instinctual as far as i'm concerned. Like little pre-programmed robots or something, man do I hate the things. Fuck Bin Laden and all those other assholes, I declare war on insects. They constantly invade my territory, and bees/mosquito's attack me without reason, so i'm going all out on this one someday. I don't care if they serve a useful purpose or not, we're hopelessly outnumbered anyways.

by that logic half the humans i know lack conscious intelligence. fucking annoying wankers
robotic animals/insects is just a way to legitimate abusing them. its as old as humanity: one tribe says the other one is less 'human' so they kill them, one religion says the other ones have no souls so they kill them, europeans said natives of the new world were not human/no soul so they killed them etc etc. we say animals are not intelligent, have no souls, so we do whatever we want on them. some early 'scientist' even went so far to say that animals dont feel pain when you skin them alive. they just scream by instinct.
its all there, you just have to accept it.

i was just talking about this in the ant farm thread, but the sick and old ant workers are the ones that work in the shit box, its hard for me to think instincts is the only thing causing that, they show intelligence...its hard to see it because we are so far above them but the things they do...they are good at. its hard to show intelligence when you can't speak and can't use tools
whats the difference between an ant and a bird? and then a bird and a cat? are humans the only thing thats capable of thought? i find that very hard to believe. but it does make eating that chicken or hamburger easier doesn't it?

I found a beetle in my basement the other night. It was grabbing the carpet with its pincers, trying to dig underneath as if it was dirt. I picked it up on a notecard and covered it with a metal tin, then dumped him outside in the grass.
He's probably gonna go on the insect version of the Shroomery now and talk about his abduction experience.

agreed. the language barrier and the species barrier make it really difficult to understand.

hahaha how many time i ve thought of that.
you know when they catch animals, bring them back to the lab and run tests on them, put trackers on them and then let them go.
Abuction, tests, implants. You suppose they watch the x files?
