 i saw the dumbest anti marijuna picture at the union hall today

one the directors had it in his office, framed and everything. it had a big leaf on it and said "MARIJUNA, making you awnswer to STUPID 10 seconds slower" i wanted to break it over his face, but hes a nice guy. i think its funny how the union is so anti-drug, but half the members do one drug or another.

im still an apprentice, so when i have class sometimes we go to non union contractors and pickett, i compared our picketts to a nazi rally to one of the directors, and i thought he was going to hit me. i just find it funny, they have no problem with alcoholism, which pretty much sums up the lives of 98% of the construction workers here. they can come to work hung-over after an all nighter, and they are ok, but if they happen to get drug tested and even the slightest amount of thc is present, they are either fired or are suspended and have to go to outpatien rehab. its just silly.

I think we might be getting the teamsters in at our work, our bosses promised us a 3 percent raise at the beginning of the year and when it didn't go through after a few weeks they said we'd get a check with back pay to the beginning of the year and then in march they told us it was canceled. Now we got about 80 redneck forklift drivers that are mad as all hell, that's what sparked the drive for a union.

Get in touch w/ the local union hall. I'm not saying it's all gravy. Like any union, it sucks paying $5 in dues to them every week. But my company pays more for my benefits every week than they pay me in cash money, so I don't think I'm getting a bad rap.

We've been talking to teamster's a lot. The dude who's running the show at the local teamsters deal seems to be an extraordinarily motivated individual, if there's ever been a chance for our workers to get a union the time is now. I know it ain't all gravy, I imagine that depending on what benefits we get, that some sacrifices may have to be made. It's still an interesting time to be working where I work, just to see things get shakin' up after 20 years.

It does sound hypocritical, but if you understand the laws behind drug tests, you would have a better understanding about why companies HAVE to use them.
Most companies hands are tied when it comes to drug tests. Their workers compensation insurance, all but requires them to have a "plan of action" when someone has tested positive for drugs. Most companies have to have "X" number of random drug tests per year, or their insurance can fine them.
Nothing personal, just business as usual.
