What do I do with this file?
    #7115639 - 07/01/07 04:58 PM (1 year, 4 months ago)

I downloaded a game. There were lots of files with the same title, and all were WinRAR type files. So i extracted 1 of them, and it extracted all of them (just like it's supposed to do).

Now I have 2 files from the extraction:

cims-ltr3.mdf.ecm (631 mb)

and

cims-ltr3.mds (24 KB)

I have poweriso, and I tried to mount the bigger file as an image, but it said that it wasn't finding the file. Do I need a different program or what?

Just looking for some advice, and please don't move this to the Science forum; that forum doesn't get enough traffic, and I know my question will go unanswered there.

Thanks

they were probably ISO images before you extracted them; winrar recognizes and extracts iso files.

you still have the original files yes?

burn that file as an image to a disk using nero or some other software.

hmmm, that doesn't really make sense to me, because I open up 1 of the many many winRAR files and inside it shows the 2 extractable files as ECM files.

open explorer, go tools -> folder options -> view -> un tick the box 'Hide extentions for known file types'

Now go to the folder where you downloaded those extractable files; and I bet they are ISO files.. Because winrar recognises ISO files it will hide the extension and treat it as a normal .rar or .zip file.

If this is the case burn the ISO like you normally would..

each of the RAR files are numbered now: .r00, .r01, .r02 all the way to the last one that is titled .rar

is that what you were meaning?

Get daemon tools and mount the .mds file or use the .mds to burn it to a disc. You may have to delete the .ecm off of the other file. It should be one .mdf and .mds. Poweriso may also be able to mount the .mds.

hah; ok now I understand.

this .ecm format is a specially written compressed format.

Go to the command line; find the file to which you extracted all this stuff to and then type unecm.exe

Then I imagine it will give you instructions on how to extract this .ecm file.

If memory serves, .mds is Alcohol 120% territory.

Yea, I just checked. Download Alcohol 120%
