wine enthusiasts?
    #6342842 - 12/06/06 11:13 PM (1 year, 11 months ago)

So I just got a 40 year old bottle of tawny port wine from Portugal. Anyone have any experience with this kind of port wine? I was surprised how strong it was. Its a very sweet, Carmely, strong flavor to it. I also see some sediment in the bottle.

I'm not a seasoned wine drinker, so any special way you guys enjoy them, tell me.

tawny port with a peppery dish is bomb.

Even if its just a ceasar salad. Its a nice pairing

Never really drank port so I don't have a good opinion about that

On the beach in the Azores with a beautiful woman.
Okay, not always an option, so maybe try white fish and and spicy rice.

I love wine, but I can only afford the $7 bottles at the liquor store down the block. I am content. I also buy three buck chuck at trader joe's.

if only.. if only.
I'll make spicy dish tomorrow and try the combination out.

Stefan: When I was in the middle of highschool, I got really drunk off of red wine. I was gulping it down. I remember passing out and walking up feeling really bad the next morning. I never got sick.. but the taste of wine really nauseated me after that. It took years to developed a taste for it again. I'm really just starting to explore and appreciate the flavors of wines.

Is 10 year port wine worth it? Not terribly pricey and if it goes good with spicy dishes I am down to the pound. IS a one year port wine worth it? What is port wine anyways, and why do you like it.

From what I know (which is pretty little) a port wine is a sweet, thick wine. I guess Portugal is most notable for their port wines.

I have to say its quite strong and potent. Its very thick and carmely sweet tasting. And now that I'm thinking about it, I could definitely see it being a great combo to a spicy dish.

And the 10, 20, 40 years is how long its aged in the barrel. Its price goes up as its aged longer. I say just buy 10 year, get some spicy food, and we both report back in this thread tomorrow!

I'm only enjoying wine since 2 years back or so, before that it was only beer. interesting to see how tastes are developing.

A few weeks back I read an article on how wines from 5-20$ can be as good as 100+$ ones, you just have to know which one!

Port is wine with brandy added to it then aged more. So kind of like a super wine, I've never tried it though.
