i wonder about this sometimes, what are the qualifications for being a hippy?
i mean i think that i would meet them all at one time or another, but some days i could be called a raver, some days a nerd, some days a gear head....
what makes you a hippy?

I think to be labeled as a "hippy" by the masses today, you have to be all scruffy, smell like incense and weed, dislike society the way it is, and have dosed acid at least once.

believing in the labeling of people makes you not a "hippie", so most "hippies" just consider themselves people. It's a big paradox.

I'm partially a hippy, but then again, I'm partially a pagan spiritualist.
I'm a geek, too.
And I am involved in Hip Hop.
I don't fit nicely in any damn category.

If you ask me what a real hippie is I would have to say first of all you had to be between the ages of 16-34 in 1969.
If you meet that test then you also have to be a bigtime LSD lover, love people and little furry things, want to save the Earth from environmental destruction, listen to bands such as The Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Yes, The Beatles, and The Who, smoke plenty of pot, wear long hair and/or dreads, and make your money from touring with bands rather than working a regular job.

In practice I take people always at face value, and I never put labels on people or categorize them. I respect people based on merit, not by what they eat, drink, listen to, or fuck.

although i hate being called a raver or anything for that matter i would say raver does seem to fit the bill.
anyhow yeah i suppose anyone who calls themselves a hippy really isnt one, tricky subject
