Mt. St. Helens is 50 miles from Portland, 100 from Seattle. It was just a tiny eruption, but all these quakes in California and the eruption are a testament to the fact that those of us on the West Coast live in an ever-changing geological event, "The Ring of Fire."
Global warming at it's finest-- indeed lava eruptions do spew a large amount of ash into the atmosphere, darkening the sky.

I think he meant to mean global warming as in a joke, like lava in the atmosphere would make it warm. Truly that ash cloud was hot hot hot. \

Is that the spin...that's hilarious. I would be stoked to be over there to see a slide down the mountain. I hope to plan a trip right...just water in the crater.

I think he might be talking about the massive amounts of CO2 that is released into the atmosphere.

well im in portalnd and we are pretty excited over here. we were kinda disappointed that it just did a little volcanic-fartie yesterday but we heard on the news that it will do a full-blown eruption. now, its exciting to us, but at the same time a little scary coz of the potential property loss/death/unhealthy air that might result. i just hope it at least looks kinda cool. hehe
