Strange Birds. Excellent Birds.
    #2820446 - 06/23/04 10:17 AM (4 years, 3 months ago)

So every morning I wake up and go outside to have a smoke, and every morning there is a new collection of fantastic bird noises that I've never heard before -- a new range of frequencies and oscillations. Yes, nature's little tapestry is really quite diverse in my neck of the hundred acre woods.

For while, I was at a loss to describe these strange noises I was hearing. This sudden loss for words actually bothered me a little bit, and I felt sort of like Pooh, a bear of Very Little Brain, when he tries to think about something that's just a little bit beyond his grasp.

So, I accepted that these noises where beyond my ability to describe, and then of course, once I'd cleared my mind of the turbulence, the words came to me, so here they are. Remember, they were very strange birds, and I'm a bear of Very Little Brain, so this is the best I can do...

These sounds were like a collection of three things: several old fashioned remington typewriters going at full speed; several kids playing with those 1960's era plastic ray guns (the kind that light up with sparks in the front, and make that certain ray gun sound); and the sound of sex on a very old old steel-spring mattress. If you add all those sounds together, and play them in as unsyncopated a manner as possible, you will have a close approximation to what I just heard...

I can ALMOST hear it, but not quite, because I've not had the chance to heart the ray gun. :frown:

Hmm, I was actually having trouble with the "sex on a really old mattress" part....

It should be added that these particular birds are very, very, small. Almost too small to be making such big sounds, but they are. They are flittering around a lot in the under-brush, and appear to have lots of enegry...

They're really pretty cool little birds!

Ah. Laurie Anderson. Great album. Weird, but great.

Yes, I heard rumors to that effect. What kind of bird was it?
