I'm sure most of you who read about Timothy Leary stuff have probably seen this stuff already. But I found this while I was searching around The Smoking Gun, which I read hours on end. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/leary/leary.html

I went to www.leary.com to copy and paste thier rebuttle to this rumor, but it's down for renovation right now.
But basically the information he gave lead to no arrests. What does that tell you about the quality of information he gave the feds?

Anyone ever read 'Acid Dreams' about the CIA and LSD connection? I just started it but I can hardly put it down...amazing stuff, like the CIA trying to, in 1953, purchase 10 kilos of LSD from Sandoz in Switzerland...hmmm, enough to dose the entire adult population of the country at the time.

I haven't read "Acid Dreams" but I know it's probably one of the top two books about LSD. The other that I have read is "Storming Heaven: LSD And The American Dream" it's extemely good. Jay Stevens must have done some exaustive work on that book. The title of the book is very appropriate because the problem with LSD is that "the American dream" is a bunch of bullshit and acid makes people aware of that.

Oh great man, now you crushed my American dream I'll want to check that book out, then, you should check out Acid Dreams, just based upon what i've read so far it's great - the role of the CIA in all of it is mind boggling, andno one would believe you if you started talking about it without book in hand to refer to. It mentions dosing people up to 75 days ina row at a facility in Lexington, KY, where heroin addicts would sometimes check themselves into knowing they'd be paid in heroin for their volunteering for experiments. Reading it so far just helps make clear the notion that the gov does not want people expanding their minds, and that is the only reason why it is illegal; an enlightened public doesn't behoove the interests of an oppresive regime.

I've found 5 or 6 inaccuracies in "Acid Dreams". They even state that strychnine myth in it. They also lay claim that the Brotherhood was disembled in 1972. It's a damn good read but it isn't the end all (..) I was hoping for when I first read it.
I need to read Jay's book, I've heard many, many good things, he also wrote a book with Mickey Hart about drumming and the reasearch they did together is mind boggling.
