It's my first grow and my first post. Simple question. Would you eat these mushshrooms? Clearly there is some contamination.

I'd eat em, they loo, fine to me, I don't see any contamination.
The only shrooms I'd toss are the ones that are all moldy and black and shit. You don't want to eat those, they'll give you some serious stomach discomfort, which you don't want while your trippin.

Might want to adjust your monitor. There is a huge green patch on the left hand side of the casing.
> I'd eat em
I wouldn't even ask before throwing them in the trash. Not much is worse than food poisoning while tripping.

Okay, I see the green mold now. I was just looking at the actual shrooms before.
Now that I see the mold, NO I wouldn't eat those.

you will be fine.
the mushrooms will stop growing in the presence of that, pick it out, and pour a little peroxide on that spot (it turns to water)

I wouldn't, the mushrooms are growing right on top of the mold. Having some trich on the opposite corner is one thing, but its all over the place on your tray. I don't think you can salvage that at all, too many places are already contaminated.

Uhh what? It's not like trich is IN the shrooms. Even if it were, it isn't harmful.
They are fine to eat.

endepth is very correct people.....

RogerRabbit said: Every mushroom that grows in the wild grows in conjunction with molds. In fact, I don't think I've ever picked an oyster mushroom from a log in the forest that didn't also have trichoderma growing on it. That's how common trich is. In fact, trichoderma inhabits nearly every cubic inch of soil on earth except extreme deserts and the arctic.
On page one of Paul Stamets 'Mycelium Running', he starts with this sentence: "There are more species of fungi, bacteria, and protozoa in a single scoop of soil than there are plants and vertebrate animals in all of North America". However, we can pick wild boletes, chaneterelles, agaricus, matsutake, etc., etc., from this mold infested soil, and eat them without getting sick. We can pick Cubensis from a nasty pile of maggot infested cow shit and eat it without getting sick.
If you put blue cheese salad dressing on your salad, you're eating huge chunks of the penicillium mold, because it's floating in the dressing.
It never ceases to amaze me the fear that gets spread on these boards over harmless molds. If your fruits were covered with yellow or brown molds, I'd say toss them, as you would any moldy fruit or other food. Likewise if they were wet and became rotten from bacteria, because bacteria can cause food poisoning.
However, as I've said for many years, just because there's a spot of mold on a cake, does not mean the fruits growing from that cake are contaminated. Mushrooms do not have vascular systems like plants, and do not suck up contaminant molds or bacteria from the substrate.
If the fruit is fine and healthy, munch away. And, for those of you who don't know, please stop spreading myths and fear. RR

No, he is not. He is playing with peoples health, which isn't cool. Just because something is green does not mean that it is trich. Perhaps it is penicillium chrysogenum. It would suck to eat those shrooms if you happen to be allergic to penicillin. Even if the contam is on the opposite side of the casing, the system is closed and toxins will tend to concentrate in the fruitbodies.
You cannot positively identify a microbe from a macroscopic picture, thus you are assuming it is safe without having anyway of knowing. It may be safe, but I know for certain that it is contaminated. I don't know what the contamination is, thus I would never consider eating fruit from that casing.

Hey fair enough! I never considered that it may be another type of mold.

So you eat bread with green spots on it? Also, I have had mushrooms with trich inside of them. This sounds like a good way to get food poisoning. I wouldn't risk it, though by now its probably not an issue as its 2 weeks old.
