 have you ever drank Absinthe?

what i'm wondering is if you have actually tried absinthe befor....
it seems that most people that actully do know what it is, don't realize that you can legally aquire it in the US... in various ways
if you have tried absinthe then please explain your experience...

A buddy of mine went to Spain and brought back a couple bright green bottles of it a while ago. It tasted very strongly of black liquorice. He said they cost about $16 each, whereas here it costs around $70 for some government regulated stuff that has to have a low level of thujone.
For me, it was like I was extremely drunk, but I still had a high sense of awareness. It was 80% and had a marijuana leaf on the front label. It was sort of trippy, but that may have been from smoking weed.

I tried it when I was in Europe. I'm not a black liquorice fan, which is what it reminded me of, but it isn't too overpowering. I really liked the ritual those goes into making the drink. There was also nothing special about the effects beyond a shot of alcohol.

Have tried a bottle from europe that a friend brought back.
Its a bit of a myth that it causes hallucinogenic effects.
Its very clear minded to start off, but that fades after a few hours and then your just drunk.

There are actually 2 brands that where recently released in the U.S last march. One of them is called "Lucid" and I don't remember the name of the other one. There is one called "Absinte" that has been sold in the U.S for a number of years, but it uses southern wormwood. Lucid (and the other one) uses Grand Wormwood which is the same stuff they use in Europe. It tastes pretty good..IF you like Absinthe. The absinte on the other hand tasted like sh*t.

Three so far that have passed the TTB <10ppm thujone test and the label issue (you cannot call it absinthe) : Lucid, Kubler and the native St.George. Kubler is a blanche - Lucid a verte and I am not sure about the St.George from Alameda, California.

I've had the Absinte, and truthfully, I don't like it much.
Honestly, I feel like I'm trying to drink NyQuil when I drink it, and I don't take NyQuil, no matter how badly I need it, because it tastes so damned vile.

I made some from a kit: Green Devil. I went ahead and bought the spoon, glass, and bottle. It was ok. It was a different kind of drunk. Strong stuff though. It calls for a liter of PGA and a 5th of 80% vodka. About 4 glasses is all I need.
Now that it is legal, its still elusive around here. I am sure it costs a small fortune as well.

I've read that thujone is a convalescent, unless mix with alcohol then its useless. If you were a serious alcoholic and going threw DT's you'd have crazy visions, or if some cheap absinthe maker used some datura for color...
i would never recommend using datura for anyone but do whatever you believe your able to handle.

I have 5 empty bottles of it sitting in my bar of three differnt types that i've be able to get all green but all a bit differnt
Frist - two bottles STAROPLZENECKY 70% imported from czech repulic
Second - two bottles HORKA LIHOVINA 60% also from czech repulic
Third and last - one bottle TEICHENNE 70% not sure where it came from but we had two bottles i only keep one.
this one made me so sick i chucked for one whole day from 8am - 8pm i had never been so sick in all my life
apart from that i love the stuff mixed with red bull and ice, what ever you do doon't shot it not nice at all
i'll post some pics of the bottles tomorrow

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me
For absinthe to be effective you have to be drunk but not to drunk.
I had a bad experience on it one time and my friend gave me some shots of jager whenever I got drunk enough the alcohol seemed to overpower the absinthe.
This effect seems to be the same whenever I am having a good time on it also. You get to drunk and its all over but the hangover.

I've drunk several kinds here in Europe, I really like it.
Kind of a cerebral drunkness, even with just a few drops.

I just picked up a bottle of some REAL swedish absinthe. It is called Kubler. Good stuff. I recommend it.
