 DEA flexes muscles and shuts down more Medical Marijuana Clinics

HAYWARD -- Federal drug agents stormed into a medical marijuana dispensary clinic near Hayward and staged raids in six other East Bay locations Tuesday in the latest crackdown on pot clubs, authorities said.
Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson said deputies helped DEA agents secure the dispensary located at Mission Boulevard and Blossom Way at around 6 a.m. Other raids were staged throughout the day -- one other location in Hayward, two locations in Oakland, one in Lafayette and one in Berkeley.
Two men who were identified by authorities as brothers were arrested in connection with the raid, but officials had no other information about their identity, or their roles in the operation and the scope of the operation. . "We had our special response unit go down and help them security the facility," Nelson said of the Hayward raid. "That's the extent of our involvement -- the rest of the case is the DEA's."
The raid touched off a demonstration at the Hayward clinic and protests from some local politicians.
"Clearly the federal government should have a hands-off policy when it comes to states that have passed propositions that allow for the medical use of cannabis," said Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley.
Meanwhile, Charles Matthews, a clinic patient from Alameda, said he uses marijuana for back problems and migraines.
"We're not criminals," he told the San Jose Mercury News. "It's not like crack or (chemical) drugs. It's natural, it soothes you."

Well that might help the legalization movement, which has as much legitimacy as the medical marijuana movement. Being sick doesn't give you any more right to your body than anyone else

No, the DEA needs to go away. A useless organization that has no purpose except to enforce laws the restrict what a person is allowed to put into their own body. The existence of the DEA means that the government owns us, literally, as one owns property.

Well see cops don't do any REAL DETECTIVE WORK anymore, they just look in the phone book for these pot clubs to raid.
I don't see how the DEA running around shutting down all these places is much different than terrorism. Basically these places are dispensing medicine and the DEA is robbing them and hurting the patients.

yeah, given the vast majority of people approve of marijuana for medical reasons, I really think the DEA will do more to hurt its cause than anything.
Hell if the DEA and states weren't so assanine I might be more relaxed on my legalization opinions

This behavior is completely unacceptable.
Everyone should call their congress people and ask them to cut it out.

Well there is a problem with this though. Although most people in America probably do approve of medical marijuana, no one outside of california really ever hears about these raids. I mean, we read about it and discuss it, but it's not like there are newscasters and reporters across the nation screaming about it. The only people who really know are people like us. It's just a story that never gets picked up. Maybe some day it will be, but who knows.
