 Professor admits to carrying drug

Dubai: A university professor has asked the court to give him the punishment he deserves after he pleaded guilty to illegally carrying 0.9 grams of marijuana for personal use. A customs inspector at Dubai International Airport who searched the 52-year-old American professor's luggage found the illegal substance hidden between academic degrees he was carrying.
"I am a university professor in the United States. I am guilty and want to be given the punishment which I deserve," the American suspect identified as I.Z. told the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday.
Mother's funeral
The Public Prosecution charged him with illegally carrying 0.91 grams of marijuana with the intent of personally using it.
I.Z. told Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir that he had come to town after 32 years to attend his mother's funeral. He said he was unaware that the drugs were still in his luggage. He asked the court for clemency after he apologised.
The customs inspector who stopped the suspect at the airport said: "I suspected two white pouches which I found in the suspect's possession. The drugs were hidden between school certificates. When I asked him about the substances, he said they were medical herbs which he uses for treating asthma." A ruling will be heard soon.

AFAIK, Dubai is very strict drugs, even weed. It's pathetic that he gets stopped for less than a gram, and even more so that he's not let off even though the Public Prosecution agrees it was for personal use.

Poor guy  mom dies, and you get caught with a dime bag in a facist anti-drug state. I hope he keeps his job and things look up...
