Ellie's grandmother 'took drugs'
    #7369932 - 09/05/07 06:26 AM (1 year, 1 month ago)

A grandmother had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs when her five-year-old granddaughter was mauled to death by a pit bull terrier, a court heard.

Ellie Lawrenson died in the attack at her grandmother Jackie Simpson's home in St Helen's on New Year's Day.

Mrs Simpson, 45, had taken a mixture of wine, marijuana, sleeping tablets and anti-depressants, the jury at Liverpool Crown Court was told.

She denies a charge of manslaughter through gross negligence.

Ellie suffered more than 72 injuries when the dog locked its jaws around her throat and shook her in the living room of her grandmother's home in Knowles House Avenue.

An expert told the jury that Ms Simpson would have had about 140 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood at the time of the fatal attack. The legal drink-drive limit is 80 milligrams.

A cocktail with marijuana? I sense journalistic dishonesty.

Furthermore, the dog may have been jealous of Ellie - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/merseyside/6978140.stm

But it is in no remote way possible to consider that news.. But hey, God forbid they actually report on something important, accurately, without business interests solely in mind.

You know, a "cocktail" doesn't always refer to a drink.

Regardless of the news story making weed look bad, that's really terrible! A little girl was mauled to death by a dog, holy crap! That's like a horrible way to go...Jeez.

"Pit bull case woman smoked up to 10 joints a day, court told"

If they EVER get a chance to blame drugs for anything or make drugs looks bad, they do.

Or it could be the pit bull...personally I think those things are serious liabilities. If the lady is gonna have a loaded weapon like that she shouldn't be getting fucked up, regardless of what it is.
