Actress Tawny Kitaen enters drug rehab for cocaine
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Tawny Kitaen, best known as the star of a series of 1980s heavy metal videos, has entered a drug rehabilitation program to resolve cocaine possession charges, her lawyer said on Monday.
Kitaen, 45, was facing a possible three years in prison on the felony charge of possessing 15 grams of cocaine but entered a six-month drug rehab program last week, lawyer Blair Berk told reporters.
Kitaen appeared in Orange County Superior Court last week, ahead of Monday's scheduled arraignment, and won a "deferred entry of judgment," Berk said. If she fails to comply with the terms of agreement she could be automatically convicted.
Prosecutors have said police were summoned in May to the home Kitaen shares with her two children in San Juan Capistrano, California, and discovered 15 grams of cocaine.
Kitaen, who starred alongside Tom Hanks in the 1984 film "Bachelor Party" and has made a number of TV appearances, may be best known for writhing on the hood of a car in a music video for the band Whitesnake at the height of heavy metal's mid-1980s popularity.
The actress, who once dated former football star O.J. Simpson, also made headlines when she was arrested in 2002 for attacking her then-husband, major league baseball pitcher Chuck Finley, with her fists and high heels.
The couple later divorced and the charges were dismissed after Kitaen agreed to attend counseling.

Actress Enters Rehab To Resolve Cocaine Charge
(CBS) LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. Tawny Kitaen Finley, best known for her role opposite Tom Hanks in the 1984 comedy "Bachelor Party," entered drug rehab to resolve a felony charge of possessing 15 grams of cocaine, officials said Monday.
Kitaen Finley, scheduled for arraignment on the charge Monday, appeared before Orange County Superior Court Judge Matthew Anderson on Dec. 13, and entered the out-patient program on Wednesday, said defense attorney Blair Berk.
Berk called the proceeding a "deferred entry of judgment," that could result in an "automatic conviction" of the charge, should she fail to comply with terms of agreement.
Berk declined to comment on the program, which is scheduled to end in June, but said Anderson "only ordered an out-patient" program.
The cocaine was allegedly found in Kitaen Finley's San Juan Capistrano apartment, while her two children were home.
Deputies came to the home in May after receiving a request for a "welfare check," said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Once there, the deputy received permission from Kitaen Finley to conduct a search.
Kitaen Finley, 45, was not under the influence of drugs nor alcohol, Amormino said.
Investigators submitted the case to the District Attorney's Office in October, Amormino said.
"When the case arose in May, Miss Kitaen took immediate steps toward rehabilitation and continues to progress well," Berk said.
The actress faces up to three years in prison if rehab falls through and she is convicted, prosecutors said.

Actress Enters Drug Rehab Program
Tawny Kitaen, who starred in the 1984 Tom Hanks comedy, "Bachelor Party," has entered a drug rehabilitation program after pleading guilty to possessing 15 grams of cocaine.
The 45-year-old actress will be allowed to change her plea to not guilty after completing the program, under terms of a plea agreement, officials said. The plea change will remove the conviction from her record.
Kitaen was charged with felony possession after sheriff's deputies said they found cocaine in her apartment in May.
She was arrested in 2002 on charges she abused then-husband, former Angels pitcher Chuck Finley. She agreed to anger management and conflict resolution counseling in exchange for the dismissal of two misdemeanor counts of spousal abuse.
