A confidential informant’s tip has led to the arrests of two California men and the discovery of more than 200 pounds of marijuana hidden in an airplane that stopped in Salina to refuel.
Saline County Undersheriff Dave Dunstan said the tipster told authorities that a plane carrying illegal drugs was headed for Salina Municipal Airport on Tuesday. After the plane landed, a drug-sniffing dog indicated that drugs were on board the single-engine aircraft.
A search uncovered six duffel bags and suitcases stuffed with 204 pounds of marijuana, which officers said had a street value of $630,000.
Deputies arrested the pilot, Aaron Hartwell, of Spring Valley, and passenger Joe Martino, of El Cajon.
Dunstan didn’t know where the plane was headed, or coming from.
