Police: Matthews man had explosive device

A 21-year-old man pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving this morning had a functional explosive device inside his car that was later detonated by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg bomb squad, Matthews police said.
Sasan Ghazal, of east Charlotte, was in Mecklenburg jail Saturday afternoon on $101,500 bond. He's charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction and with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police haven't said what kind of device they found or what they believe Ghazal intended to do with it.
Early Saturday, a Matthews police officer saw Ghazal driving erratically. When officers later searched the car, police said, they found illegal drugs, the paraphernalia and the device.
At about 9:20 a.m., officials at the department called the bomb squad, which arrived with a federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent at 11:30 a.m. and disabled the device a half-hour later.
Ghazal, whose address jail records list as Bristol Ford Place, has previous criminal charges. He was found guilty of carrying a concealed gun and felony possession of drugs in 2006.

it was probably a sparkler bomb. i doubt he had any intention of blowing up anything worth a shit.

It is sad how the meaning of "mass destruction" has changed over time. Weapons of mass destruction used to mean weapons that kill massive numbers of people indiscriminately, such as nuclear bombs and VX nerve gas. Thanks to the "war on terror" and the lack of anything substantial in Iraq, the term "weapon of mass destruction" means anything that can damage or kill more than one person. Lame.

haha a wmd in his car. Seriously was propably a tennis ball with a small hole drilled through it with the sparkler material and strike anywhere match heads in it 
Wmd is a nuke or a dirty bomb etc...

Nevertheless, he sounds like an arab guy, and explosive device + arab guy is never a good combination. He's going to get the chair

The device must have been clean, if there was dust or dirt on the device it would have been called a "dirty bomb"
