Two Iowa men face drug charges in Canada
Associated Press - February 6, 2008 9:14 AM ET
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Two eastern Iowa men face drug charges in Canada.
That's after officials say they tried to cross a frozen river to get a duffel bag of marijuana they stashed to avoid a Canadian checkpoint.
Authorities say Daniel Rathjen of Marengo and John Lindley of Iowa City hid a pound and .5 of pot under the dock of a home in Sault Ste. Marie, just across the St. Marys River from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Officials say the pair walked for nearly a mile across the river on January 20, but fell through the ice about 30 feet from the Canadian shore.
The men were rescued by area residents. They were being treated by paramedics, while a drug dog turned up the pot.

The thesis that I want to advance today is that the drug war and the laws that prohibit the private consumption of certain drugs are unconstitutional. Prohibition laws, themselves, violate every tenet of limited government that is embodied in our Constitution.
