RCMP rejects U.S.'s 'extreme ecstasy' claim
Updated Sun. Jan. 20 2008 11:49 AM ET
The Canadian Press
VANCOUVER -- The head of the RCMP's national drug branch is debunking claims by the United States' drug czar.
Supt. Paul Nadeau says he doesn't understand why John Walters would say organized crime rings in Canada are dumping dangerous, methamphetamine-laced `extreme ecstasy' into his country's illegal drug market.
Nadeau says he's never heard of `extreme ecstasy' and that Walters, of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, didn't check any facts with Canadian officials before distributing a news release.
The release has generated huge media buzz in the U.S., with some news outlets using names such as `turbo-charged ecstasy,' which is supposedly flowing across the border from Canada.
In the release, issued earlier this month, Walters warns public health and safety leaders that more than 55 per cent of ecstasy samples seized in the U.S. last year contained meth, a stimulant that affects the central nervous system.
Nadeau says there's nothing new about ecstasy being laced with methamphetamine or other stimulants -- something that's been happening for the last decade.

While it may have been happening for the last decade, my own personal experience tells me that it has become much worse in the last 2-3 years than it was 5-6 years ago.

BTW Chemy, I don't know what country "CN" represents to most people but for me it signifies China, rather than Canada. I believe "CAN" would be a better indicator of articles regarding Canada than "CA" or "CN"

The problem with using CA is that it can be easily confused with California in cases where the headline itself doesn't make the origins obvious.
