A yearlong drug trafficking investigation resulted in the seizure of 220 pounds of marijuana and $10,000 in cash from two Columbia residences, police said today.
The drugs, which have a street value of more than $600,000, and cash were recovered during simultaneous searches at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday at 501 Himalayas Drive and 4647 Brandon Woods.
Police believe the two homes were being used together to traffic large amounts of marijuana. No arrests had been made as of this morning, Columbia police Capt. Brad Nelson said.
The marijuana was packaged and ready to be distributed, Nelson said. Police found the drugs in one residence and the money in the other, he said, declining to be specific.
"It’s certainly one of the larger seizures of marijuana in our history," he said. "I don’t recall too many times where we’ve recovered more than 200 pounds of marijuana."
This morning, nobody answered the door at either residence, and police vehicles were parked nearby.
At the home on Himalayas, a pit bull ran to the door, and a 2005 red Ford pickup - a rental car registered to Joe Machens Ford - was parked in the driveway. A representative at the car dealership declined to reveal who rented the car.

The house is owned by Ann M. McCauley, according to records on file with the Boone County Recorder of Deeds. McCauley could not be reached this morning.
Neighbor Jenny Saab said her family moved in last June and had never seen the residents of the house next door.
"We’ve just seen a lot of cars," Saab said. "Haven’t seen any people or anything."
Saab said she noticed a moving van loaded with furniture outside the home about a month or so ago. She also said the residents had recently built a privacy fence around the backyard.
At the Brandon Woods apartment, a side-facing garage was open this morning with a 1996 Audi parked inside. The car is registered to Robert A. Hocks of Columbia, who could not be reached.
The fourplex, owned by Mardon Properties LLC, is located only blocks away from Rock Bridge High School in south Columbia. Calls to Donald and Mary Eggeman, who own Mardon Properties, were not returned this morning.
Several agencies have been involved in the investigation: the St. Louis County Drug Task Force, the Mid-Missouri Unified Strike Team and Narcotics Group, the Missouri Highway Patrol, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the Columbia Police Department.
