Police seize more than 200 pounds of cocaine, worth $20 million

BOWMANSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Police discovered more than 200 pounds of cocaine during a traffic stop in suburban Philadelphia, a seizure that authorities on Saturday said had a street value of $20 million.
Police stopped a minivan on Route 76 in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, for an unspecified traffic violation Friday morning. A state trooper asked the driver to step out of the van with his driver's license and vehicle registration.
He stepped out but fled on foot before displaying the documents, according to a news release from the Bowmansville state police barracks.
Police then searched the van, which they said had 97 kilograms — or about 214 pounds — of cocaine inside.
Records showed that the van, a rental, was reported stolen from New York on Thursday.

Actually it's pretty damn smart to NOT get busted with your felony amounts of drugs, in your stolen vehicle.
It sounds like he got away since they didn't say he was arrested or release his name.
Too many people freeze up with fear when the cops holler "freeze!". If you flee on foot you have a decent chance of getting away.
If I was ever involved in something like this I would stay fit and make sure I could run like a MOFO!

He ran before he had any reason to think he would be search, at least af far as the article shows.
He was probably stopped for a normal traffic violation.
If they had thought he had drugs they wouldn't ask him to stand outside the car and show his lisence and registration, they'd pull their guns and say "get down on the ground."
If he could behave normal he probably would have no trouble.

Whenever you are pulled from your car the next step is to be searched. Now I understand that you don't need to consent to this search, but let's not forget that he was driving a stolen vehicle, and knew it (I'm assuming). It would only take the cops a couple seconds to figure out it was stolen, and then it's all down hill from there. Sounds like he made the right choice, I'm very surprised he didn't get caught... unless the article is misleading us.

He was in a STOLEN vehicle! He would not be alright. He was probably a bit foolish to even wait for the vehicle to stop before fleeing.

It doesn't say whether they discovered it was stolen before or after. I had read it to say it was then identified as stolen after he ran.

Obviously they found out it was stolen after he ran, but they probably found out about 3 minutes later when the plates came back. The guy was very smart to run before the plates came back stolen.

How about an experiment. Go steal a car, load it up with... weed, since that's easier to find. Then drive without the headlights on at night. See if you can avoid getting in trouble. If you can, you have the potential to make tons of money being the best drug smuggle in the history of the world.

Run! Very smart drug trafficker, in that sense. But getting pulled over for an 'unspecified traffic violation', dumb. Especially if you have 200 pounds of cocaine. What the fuck is so hard about driving correctly when you have a life sentence in your trunk? Not only that, but now someone very important is out of 200 pounds, and prolly is not too happy about it. I dont know if I'd rather have the police lookin for me, or this supplier lookin for me. Seems like the same type of outcome for each scenario.
